Robot as a bending machine: better for automation?

Machining processes should become increasingly more flexible, whilst operating with a greater degree of automation. But how and when is automation truly necessary.  The question of benefits naturally arises with all enthusiasm for automation: from the cost reduction of a process to the operator-independent quality and process capability, there are many different targets and reasons. However, finding the best automated process demands extensive expertise.
What form of handling is required?
We utilise our broad-ranging portfolio for the development of individual production cells. In this way, forming and tube bending technologies can be integrated highly effectively. And if tube cutting should take place during the initial phase of the process for example, our chipless orbital t cut process enables direct further processing without delay. Diverse possibilities also arise with the specific construction of the handling system; be it through a robot or with servo-electrically driven 4-axes linear handling for example, which is much simpler to program than a robot and also works faster. In contrast to automated tube bending: Here, the robot is much more flexible than the linear system.
The bending robot
Within the framework of a current automation project our transfluid® engineers have created an additional concept, and placed the bending machine directly in the hand of the robot. For the robot bending machine, right-left bending in one setting is no problem; even with pre-assembled tube/hose combinations. Bending various  diameters is possible without a tool change, because the bending heads can be equipped with multiple levels. In this way even straight tubes are processed without extensive vibrations at a relatively constant bending speed. As such, double-sided bending without additional length is possible up to the end form.  The robot naturally brings the handling with it, so that steel tubes with a diameter of up to 22 mm can be bent without a mandrel.
A speciality is a new process, whereby we can use a robot bender able to bend with inner mandrel.
Special requirements, individual solutions
In order to make robot use as uncomplicated as possible, programming is superfluous with our robot bending systems. Our systems simply load the required coordinates from the CAD system and the robot is operated by means of a conventional bending machine control.
